**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has issued an Executive Order effective Monday, March 16, at 3 pm, until March 30, to immediately limit all bars and restaurants to carry-out and delivery services only in an effort to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. Patrons are permitted to walk-in to pick up food, but are not permitted to dine-in.

In DeWitt, we greatly appreciate and value ALL of our small business owners, and it is my hope that our community will continue to support these businesses to help them (and us) through this challenging time. Many of our neighbors and friends work at these establishments, and many of us not only enjoy patronizing our local businesses, but we also depend on them!

In an effort to assist and support our local restaurants during the closure, the City of DeWitt has set up temporary ‘drive through pick-up’ lanes in the on-street parking spaces for some of our downtown businesses directly affected by the closure.

We encourage everyone to support our local businesses in any way you can through this period. Every little bit will help them.

As the circumstances and situation surrounding the coronavirus changes, the City of DeWitt will keep the community informed. Information around this outbreak is changing rapidly. The latest information is available at Michigan.gov/Coronavirus and www.coronavirus.gov.

The City appreciates your patience, understanding and support during this period.

Susan Leeming, Mayor

March 18, 2020

Dear City of DeWitt Residents,

These are challenging times for all of us due to the fast moving spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country and the world. I want to assure you that the City of DeWitt continues to monitor the situation in cooperation with our federal, state and local health partners.

In the interest of public health and our valued staff, we are closing City Hall, DeWitt Area Emergency Services Authority and the Department of Public Works buildings to the public as of 5 pm today, March 18th. We will continue to provide all essential services and are available via email, phone, and Facebook. City administration, the City of DeWitt Police Department and our Public Works Department are all working, however we need to limit personal contact. These actions are consistent with the guidance from the Center for Disease Control and the State of Michigan to protect our community and our staff.

Please call City administration at (517) 669-2441 for assistance with any city related services.

The City of DeWitt is asking our residents to use email, phone or the City’s drop box at the entrance of City Hall to conduct as much business as possible.

The following list are some common documents that are available on our website www.dewittmi.org and should be emailed, info@dewittmi.org or placed in the drop box versus being dropped off inside City Hall:

  • Building Permits
  • Voter Registration
  • Vacancy for Refuse
  • Cemetery Lot Sales
  • Park Rental
  • Business Registrations

Call the City of DeWitt Police Department for assistance with any police related service, at (517) 669-9131.

As the circumstances and situation surrounding the coronavirus changes, the City of DeWitt strives to keep you informed. Information around this outbreak is changing rapidly. The latest information is available at Michigan.gov/Coronavirus and CDC.gov/Coronavirus.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period. And please don’t forget to support our local downtown businesses as much as you can during this challenging time.
