Burning Permit Information:

City of DeWitt:

Only parcels two acres or greater may obtain a burn permit for the burning of brush. There is NO BURNING OF BRUSH DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST. No burn pile shall exceed 5 feet in height and 10 feet in width. A 14-day permit is required. Call 669-9131 Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Cooking/Campfires are permitted for everyone, and a permit is not needed. Your campfire may not be any larger than 4 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height.

Any burning shall occur at 25 feet from any structure and property line and shall be at the rear of property away from any roadway and sidewalk, unless in an above ground commercially manufactured fire receptacle not modified from its original purpose, or in a masonry fireplace made for outdoor burning.

All fires must be out by Midnight, no burning from Midnight to 6 a.m. No burning of leaves, building materials, tires and petroleum products. Must be supervised by an adult at all times. No fires if wind speed exceeds 10 MPH.

 

Olive & Riley Township:

Brush permits can be obtained in person and do not expire. These permits are non-transferable to a new owner. The new property owner must come in and obtain a new permit under their name. Permits may be obtained at the police department at City Hall (414 E. Main Street; DeWitt) or through your local clerk's office. The permit is good for both brush and campfires. All fires must be no less than 10 feet from adjoining property lines and 50 feet from all structures. A source of water must be available within reasonable proximity, and the permit is VOID if the wind is 10 miles per hour or greater.

Burn barrels in Olive and Riley for the purpose of burning of household paper waste does not require a permit.

Watertown Township:
