Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) |
Records of the City are made available to the general public in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Act No. 440 of the Michigan Public Acts of 1976, as amended, or a future such act (City Charter, Section 2.15, Records).
The City Council adopted a policy regarding Freedom of Information Act requests on January 6, 1992.
The City Administrator is the designated FOIA Coordinator for the City. The FOIA Coordinator is responsible for accepting and processing requests for the City's public records under the Freedom of Information Act, and is responsible for approving a denial under Section 5 (4) and (5) of the Act.
Open Meeting Act
The business of "public bodies" of the City, as the term is defined by the Open Meetings Act, Act No. 267 of the Michigan Public Acts of 1976, as amended, shall be conducted in compliance with the Act, or a future such act. All public meetings shall be accessible to the public. Citizens shall have reasonable opportunity to be heard at all open meetings (City Charter, Section 2.14, Public Meetings).
