City of DeWitt:
Only parcels two acres or greater may burn brush during the months of June, July and August. No burn pile shall exceed 5 feet in height and 10 feet in width. A 14-day permit is required (call 669-9131 M-F, 8 AM - 5 PM).
Cooking/Campfires are permitted for everyone no permit needed. Must be no larger than 4 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height.
Any burning shall occur at 25 feet from any structure and property line and shall be at the rear of property away from any roadway and sidewalk, unless in an above ground commercially manufactured fire receptacle not modified from its original purpose, or in a masonry fireplace made for outdoor burning.
All fires must be out by Midnight, no burning from Midnight to 6 a.m. No burning of leaves, building materials, tires and petroleum products. Must be supervised by an adult at all times. No fires if wind speed exceeds 10 MPH.
Olive Township:
Brush permits are good for up to 3 days (call 669-9131 M-F, 8 AM - 5 PM), all burning must be done during daylight hours only. Must be attended by an adult until extinguished. No fires if wind speeds exceed 15 MPH. Must be at least 10 feet from adjoining property line and 50 feet from any structure.
Campfire permits are good until March 31 of the following year. Campfires may not exceed 5 feet in diameter of 3 feet in height and must be out by 2:00 A.M. You may obtain a permit at City Hall during business hours, or download the form here and mail it to City Hall, 414 E. Main Street or fax to 669-9018.
Riley Township:
Brush permits are good for up to 3 days (call 669-9131 M-F, 8 AM - 5 PM). Burning must be done during daylight hours only. Fires are to be constantly attended by an adult until extinguished. No burning if wind speeds exceed 15 MPH. Campfires for recreation or cooking require NO permit and must be no longer than 3 feet in diameter and 5 feet in height.
Watertown Township:
Call the Looking Glass Fire Dept. for burn permits in Watertown Township 627-9831.
