City of DeWitt:
No permit required. All outdoor burning is prohibited in the city except for cooking fires and campfires. No burning is allowed midnight to 6:00 AM. Any burning shall occur at least 25 feet from any existing structure and property line and shall be at the rear of any property, away from any roadway and sidewalk. If lot dimensions do not permit compliance, then burning shall occur in the center of the property behind the dwelling or principal building. If winds exceed 10 miles per hour, no burning shall be permitted. No campfire shall exceed 4' in diameter by 3' in height. Fires are to be constantly attended by an adult until extinguished.
Olive Township:
Permits are good for up to 3 days (call 669-9131 M-F, 8 AM - 5 PM), all burning must be done during daylight hours only. All fires are to be constantly attended by an adult until extinguished. Burning is prohibited if wind speeds exceed 15 MPH.
You may now get a year long campfire permit that is good until March 31 of the following year. You may obtain one at City Hall during business hours, or download the form here and mail it to City Hall, 414 E. Main Street or fax to 669-9018.
Riley Township:
Permits are good for up to 3 days (call 669-9131 M-F, 8 AM - 5 PM), all burning must be done during daylight hours only. All fires are to be constantly attended by an adult until extinguished. Burning is prohibited if wind speeds exceed 15 MPH.
Watertown Township:
Call the Looking Glass Fire Dept. for burn permits in Watertown Township 627-9831.
