Refuse Container Service:

Refuse and recycling service is provided to all City of DeWitt residences by Granger Container Service.

REFUSE TIPS

  • Place trash streetside no later than 6:30 am.
  • Double bag loose material such as: Kitty litter; animal waste; sawdust; ashes; insulation and packing peanuts.
  • Place long items such as: Broom handles; curtain rods; etc on the ground beside the trash.
  • Please flatten & tie cardboard boxes together, do not place trash in boxes. City Hall will no longer offer bins for flattened corrugated cardboard. This must be done curbside.
  • Extra bags may be set out on occasion - please call Granger to request services and approve additional charge if one applies.
  • Please place trash to the RIGHTof your driveway as you face your house from the street.

                                             


                                                NEW! RECYCLING INFORMATION

  • Break down corrugated cardboard and stack it beside your recycling tub.
  • Set out extra recycling in a recyclable container such as a cardboard box.
  • Set out an additional reusable container like a laundry basket, plastic tub, or waste basket.
  • Clearly label the container with the word RECYCLE to ensure our crews do not take it by mistake.
  • Glass will no longer be accepted from your recycling tub.

                                                   2009-2010 PRICE ADJUSTMENTS

  • Trash Removal Charge: $36.30 quarterly (billed in arrears)
  • Senior Removal Charge: $25.30 quarterly (billed in arrears)
  • Sewer Billing: $65.00 a quarter (billed in advance)
  • All billings occur on a quarterly cycle of: January 1st, April 1st,
  • July 1st, and October 1st.
 
  • Residential Bill Total = $101.30
  • Senior Residential Bill Total = $ 90.30

SEASONAL COMPOSTING RULES

  • Generally Weekly Removal is April through November. 
  • Composting begins April 7, 2010 to November 24, 2010.
 
  • For collection purposes, compost (yard waste) material is defined as: grass, leaves, shrubs, tree branch trimmings and garden materials.
 
  • Yard waste will be picked up in brown paper compost bags only.
  • Compost bags weighing more than 50 pounds will not be collected.
  • Shrubs must be cut up into manageable pieces and be free of any root balls.
  • Branch trimmings must be no longer than 4 feet in length and securely tied in bundles.
  • Granger will take up to 4 compost bags; 4 bundles of trimmed brush, or a combination of the two from each residence weekly.
  • Plastic bags containing compost will not be picked up.
  • Weeds or grass clippings must be free of dirt and root balls.
  • Yard waste must be separate from household trash and placed on the opposite side of the drive, if possible.
  • Granger is requesting the use of brown paper compost bags only when composting.

*Brush that is too large to be removed as part of the weekly yard waste-composting program is collected each spring and fall by the City sponsored, street-side brush pick-up program.


                                                    REFUSE PICK-UP

  • HOUSEHOLD TRASH – Weekly Removal - Wednesday's (unless affected by a holiday).
  • Granger Observes the following holidays that may affect your Wednesday pick-up: New Year's Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

  • There is a limit of (8) trash bags per pick-up or (2) 45-gallon containers.
  • Containers or bagged trash must not exceed
    All household trash MUST be bagged.
    Loose trash in containers will not be picked up.
  • One recycle bin is provided to each residence at no charge.
    If the residence is sold, the bin should remain with the property.
  • The cost for a replacement bin is $12.00.

Only athletic shoes will be accepted!  No dress shoes, thongs, sandals, boots or any shoe with metal eyelets, cleats, spikes or shoes that light up (they have Mercury) are not acceptable. Make sure shoes are dry and free of mud.

Free containers to safely dispose of sharps. Full containers can be disposed of with your curbside trash service. Put container in a brown paper bag, mark with “SHARPS” and set along side with curbside waste. Residents may also take full containers to Granger’s on Wood Road between  9:00 am – 5:00 pm
