CITY OF DEWITT

PROHIBITED TREE SPECIES

(Adopted by the DeWitt City Council on March 15, 2004

upon recommendation of the DeWitt Tree Commission)

The following trees are prohibited from planting on streetside right-of-ways, public parks and other public areas in the City of DeWitt. These species have been determined to have unsavory characteristics including being weak wooded, disease or insect prone or otherwise excessively untidy.

BLACK LOCUST
BOXELDER
BUCKTHORN
CATALPA
COTTONWOOD
ELM, SIBERIAN
MAPLE, SILVER
MULBERRY
POPLARS
TREE OF HEAVEN
WILLOWS, ALL SPECIES

(FRAXINUS)

While existing specimens of these species may not be cut down immediately, the City reserves the right to do so when they affect public safety and welfare. The planting of additional tree species may be rejected on any basis including public safety and welfare.

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy an open story time held in the school library.

Dog-Gone!  Reading is Fun!

Children are invited to the main library to practice their reading skills with Talone, a registered and trained therapy dog. She loves to hear a good story! Please sign up!

Wednesday, 21st

Baby Story Time @ 10:30 am

Babies 6 months through 2 years of age are invited to a special story time designed for their age and interests.  Babies must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Supervision and activities are provided for older siblings.

Story Time @ 2:00 pm *Satellite location - 16101 Brook Road*

Children of all ages are invited to an open story time at the satellite location of the library.

Knit-Wits @ 3:30 pm

Join area knitters in their community projects or bring one of your own. Newcomers are always welcome to join this fun group!

Thursday, 22nd

Lap Sit Story Time @ 10:30 am

Toddlers 2-3 years of age are invited to an energetic story time at the main library. Toddlers must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Supervision and activities are provided for older siblings.

"Behind Barbed Wire" 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

A traveling exhibit about Midwest Prisoners of War in Nazi Germany. A

Bus-eum  will be parked in the parking lot of the main library.

TORNADO SIREN TESTING

Tornado siren testing began Saturday, April 5th at noon. This testing will continue on every first Saturday of each month until October 4th, 2008
