Larry Jerue was appointed Chief of Police 2004. He came to the City of DeWitt with 23 years of experience with the Ann Arbor Police Department. Prior to leaving Ann Arbor he was deputy chief. Chief Jerue is a graduate from Eastern Michigan University.
The Chief of Police, under the general supervision of the Mayor of the City of DeWitt, is responsible for providing quality police service to the citizens of DeWitt. This includes the planning, organizing, staffing, directing and budgeting of the department. The Chief of Police determines the Department's overall mission, as well as its long and short-term goals and objectives. This includes routine preventative patrol, criminal investigation and enforcement of all State and local traffic and criminal laws, as well as a number of other City Ordinances.

Police Lieutenant - Joe Spagnuolo:
Joe Spagnuolo was hired as Lieutenant in July 2009. He came from the Village
of Elsie where he previously served Village of Elsie as Chief of Police. Prior to

serving the Village of Elsie he served 16 years with the Capital Region Airport Authority, Department of Public Safety and served in the capacity of officer, training sergeant and K-9 handler. Joe has worked with the City of DeWitt Police Department, part time since April of 2006.
Lieutenant Spagnuolo also served the citizens of Maple Rapids as their Police Chief for over 8 years. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.
